J. Stephen Whitney is a poet, essayist and fiction writer whose work has appeared in African American Review, Exhibition, Poetry Corners, Black Scholar, Third World Communications, Reed and USA Today. He has received awards and recognition from L. Ron Hubbard’s Writers of the Future and Writer’s Haven Bright Side Poetry.

Please give us an idea of your creative process.

I write early in the morning and late in the afternoon. I begin each of my writing sessions with a prompt or situation that I can use as a framework for my ideas.
