Richard Spilman lives in Hurricane, West Virginia. He is the author of In the Night Speaking and of a chapbook, Suspension. His poetry has appeared in many magazines, including Poetry, The Southern Review, Western Humanities Review and New Letters.

The Bible, a collection of stories by Wright Morris, Homo Faber by Max Frisch and The Reader by BernHard Schlink.

I don’t like ebooks. I love the tactile experience of reading.

Do you have a favoerite bookstore?

Eighth Day Books in Wichita, Kansas.Housed in a gracefully decaying Victorian with a great selection of poetry, history, and theology.

What book made the biggest impression on you as a kid?

Probably the two volume collection of Sherlock Holmes that I read in fifth grade, mostly on the back stairs of a day-care house under a sixty watt bulb. I would wander the neighborhood trying to take in as many details as I could in a single glimpse.
