What’s your creative process? Are you a night owl or an early bird?
I like the Peter DeVries quote: “I write when I’m inspired and I see to it that I’m inspired at 9 a.m. every morning.” I am mostly focused on novels, and my work day is not finished until I have composed at the very least 1,000 words, usually more.
What are you reading?
As for reading, I just finished The Harder They Come by T.C. Boyles, and I’m also reading a poetry collection, Dreamless and Possible, by Christopher Howell.
What are your favorite books of all time?
All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, The Living by Anne Dillard, The Shipping News by Annie Proulx, The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, and The Dollmaker by Harriet Arnow. Ask me tomorrow and I’ll give you a different list.
