What inspires you as an artist?
Everything in nature, the expressive human form, and looking at art – especially art that is on the edge of abstract and representational, and art that does something unexpected with color or composition.
How do you approach your work — do you have a daily routine?
My best work comes when I follow a daily routine. I have the most energy in the morning so I walk the dog, get some exercise, then get in the studio right away.
If you could spend a day with any artist who’s ever lived, who would it be?
There are so many. Elmer Bischoff or Joan Brown. Cezanne of course, and Matisse. Alice Neel sounds like she was a very interesting person.
